In this photo is Dale Gunderson visiting our shop. He is a retired Tacoma refinisher. His Tacoma refinishing shop on south 30th Street has served this region for more than 50 years. When I pick up furniture I am constantly asked if I know where he is. |

Furniture Care 1. Wax table slides and drawer bottoms with clear paraffin wax from your local grocery 2. On drawers with metal runners there is usually a light grease do not wax these 3. With glass on table or desk tops, elevate the glass with felt tabs to allow the wood to breath 4. Avoid polishes containing silicone– silicone soaks beneath the finishes and permanently into the wood fibers 5. Replace metal glides with nylon glides—metal tends to rust after carpet shampooing 6. Keep wood furniture a few feet away from heat registers to keep wood from drying out 7. Usually wood furniture retains 12% moisture and likes rooms at 25 to 35% humidity 8. Be careful when polishing plated brass—you can tell it is plated steel when a magnet sticks to it. The plating is sometimes only as thick as the lacquer coating. To regain the original shine first remove the lacquer then polish the brass. After polishing you can re-apply the lacquer. |
